Kaidan is cited as an example of the consequences that come with branching narratives in video games. Kaidan suffers from infrequent, but debilitating, migraines as a side effect of the controversial L2 implants he was fitted with during his time at Biotic Acclimatization and Temperance Training ("BAaT"), nicknamed "brain camp" by Kaidan. In gameplay terms, Kaidan is a "Sentinel", who combines biotic and technological abilities to manipulate the environment, enhance defensive capabilities, disable and track enemies. Raised in Canada, Kaidan is a Systems Alliance officer born with the ability to manipulate dark energy, employ telekinesis and create mass effect fields called biotics, after his mother is affected by "Element Zero" during an incident in Singapore while he was in utero. Kaidan has received an overall mixed reception throughout his appearances in the Mass Effect trilogy. Initially presented as a heterosexual love interest for a female Shepard in the first game, the character is reintroduced in Mass Effect 3 as a bisexual love interest, a decision by BioWare which attracted mostly praise as well as some criticism. In Mass Effect 3, Kaidan initially appears at the Alliance base in Vancouver before taking off on a mission to Mars with Shepard and the crew of the Normandy SR-2. If Kaidan survives the events of Mass Effect, by the events of Mass Effect 2 he is encountered on the human colony of Horizon after Shepard receives a tip that Horizon will be the next human colony to be abducted by the enigmatic race known as the Collectors. Kaidan's fate on the planet Virmire is part of a pivotal decision which the player has to make in order to advance the narrative. The character is initially introduced in the original Mass Effect as a human Systems Alliance Officer and primary squad member in Commander Shepard's team. Kaidan Alenko is a fictional character in BioWare's Mass Effect franchise, who acts as a party member (or "squadmate") in the first and third games in the series. ![]()

Learning all of the key bindings in Regolith Linux desktop environment is challenging. Since KDE’s design philosophy is conservative, standard settings make the interface primarily mouse-driven, so if you want to stick your fingers to the keyboard and never use a pointing device, go elsewhere. You have widgets for the desktop and you can also add a dock anywhere on the screen to make it look all macOS. In fact, KDE is probably the best option for emulating the look of the other operating systems. You can set your task-bar at any place on the screen and you can style the desktop in many ways. The system is still very innovative so you will not lack new features.Īt first glance, you may think that the interface is inflexible, but that is not true. If you like consistency, KDE Plasma is for you. This is why they have a menu bar, start box and list of applications. The philosophy of the KDE Linux desktop environment has always been to use known concepts and enhance them. KDE’s Linux Desktop environment comes with a look and feel that’s reminiscent of many popular windowed operating systems. You have to be the one who decides about this. With the dwm team, the whole philosophy is to add nothing until the user decides to. Enter the tiling, minimalist desktop environments dwm, awesome and regolith. The other contestants tested here use the idea that anything can be thrown out if you have another solution. When the GNOME developers decided to challenge this idea, many users were aghast. The idea of a button at the lower right corner of the desktop was, for a long time, unavoidable. In KDE you’ll find a different philosophy but you can still get lots of widgets to add to your desktop. GNOME has a lot of nice eye candy and its extensions serve you with the weather, mail notifications and, almost anything you need from the internet. User Experience of Linux Desktop EnvironmentsĬurrent Linux desktop environments have been designed to appeal to a large audience. You can take them with you, with some tweaking. Watch out for programs that are spelled with a ‘K’ for no apparent reason. KDE has many projects that need the desktop environment to operate. When running office packages, they usually do fine unless they are made especially for the environment. In the case of GIMP, you have an option to have all tools inside the application, called single-window mode. Popular image editor GIMP is an example of a program that can cause problems when you use the tools in an undocked mode. He was the last surviving member of the classic Dave Brubeck Quartet line-up. In his later life, Wright headed the jazz department at the University of Cincinnati and the International Society of Bassists. Known for nimble soloing as well as providing rhythmic backing, he worked with many other musicians including Buddy Collette, Vince Guaraldi, Kenny Drew, Gerald Wiggins, Kai Winding, Dottie Dodgion, Jerry Dodgion, Lee Shaw, and Dorothy Donegan. He became known as "The Senator" or "Senator Eugene Wright" among jazz musicians. Īfter leaving Brubeck, Wright led his own ensemble on a tour of Black colleges in 19, then played with Monty Alexander's trio from 1971 to 1974. When Wright joined the group, concert promoters would not allow a Black musician alongside the rest of the White quartet, but Brubeck would refuse to perform without him. In 1962, he performed in Dave and Iola Brubeck's jazz musical The Real Ambassadors, which featured vocals by Louis Armstrong and Carmen McRae the work explored, through satire, the role of musicians as cultural ambassadors during the Cold War, and the racism Black jazz musicians often endured. Brubeck himself wrote that Wright "grounded the group", allowing them "to play other tempos and do polyrhythmic things and he wouldn’t budge from this grounded beat". He recorded more than 30 albums with the group. He remained with Brubeck until 1968, as part of the classic line-up with Paul Desmond and Joe Morello, and featured in the quartet's standards " Take Five" and " Blue Rondo à la Turk". Wright's highest profile association was with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, which he joined in 1958. He was featured in a film short with Charlie Barnet. He played in the Red Norvo trio in 1955 and toured Australia with them. He also played with Lonnie Simmons, Gene Ammons, and Arnett Cobb in the late '40s and early '50s, then worked with Buddy DeFranco from 1952 to 1955, touring Europe with him. Playing with Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker, after the swing era ended, he demonstrated his versatility in bebop with such musicians as Sonny Stitt as well as in Latin jazz with Cal Tjader. He became more successful at the peak of the swing era, with bandleaders including Count Basie and Erroll Garner. Also note you can run the exact same command again when the first pass is done and the utility will use the log file to try to just recover the bad blocks again (if the log file exists the utility only tries to copy the unsuccessful blocks). With a SystemRescueCD or USB stick you can perform heroic rescues on any. Be patient, the process is a sector-by-sector copy so it takes a long time. As a consequence, changes you make on the system are not saved, and they are lost when you reboot (except what you do on the other file systems that you may have mounted). If the target disk is larger then you will end up with unclaimed space and will need to use a partition tool to expand into this space.ģ. One caveat is that the target disk must be at least as large as the source disk. Here’s the “how-to” I created for myself. In general Ddrescue is a great tool to have when dealing with files, hard drives, or cd-roms that are damaged or have lost data. Use a Linux LiveCD as SystemRescueCd (or the rescue mode on the installation CD for Linux distribution used) to start the system where the disk is connected. When you run it on the same output file, it tries to fill in the gaps without wiping out the data already rescued. This means that if you have two or more copies of a cd or hard drive, and all the copies are damaged to some extent, Ddrescue will be able to piece together the good data from each copy, resulting in a more complete recovery. It can also merge multiple damaged copies of a file or disk to enhance the chances of 100% recovery. You can stop and resume its activity at any time as the logfile will keep track of progress and reduce redundant scanning, making to process very efficient. Ddrescue is licensed under the GNU general public license and is completely free to use.ĭdrescue is quite a powerful recovery tool that can recover data in spite of bad sectors and disk errors.
